After pARTY

after pARTY is an official/unofficial after party kicking on from the exhibition openings of galleries around Chippendale  each month. Striving to celebrate contemporary artists and their practices, each edition sees a different artist commissioned to transform Freda’s into a live and multisensory performance art party.

after pARTY was co-founded and run by Nerida Ross and Anna May Kirk and featured artists including Rosie Deacon, Get To Work, Lily Golightly, 110%, Caroline Garcia and Claudia Nicholson, Roslyn Helper, Prue Stent and Honey Long, Angela Goh, Leila El Rayes, Chun Yin Rainbow Chan, Show Us Your Teeth, Make or Break and Hannah Brontë.

Get To Work

Get To Work is the art collaboration of Tracy Quan, Georgia Taia and Paris Taia. Using amateur dance and humorous performance to explore the quirks of contemporary living, social behaviour and cultural identity they aim to question what it means to be culturally categorised in Australia. In the AP edition Get to Work transform Freda’s into an immersive island extravaganza, complete with a golden pool installation, tropical vine’s and some *glitz* and *glamour* and dancehall beats by dutty dancing DJ, Shantan Wantan Ichiban.

Angela Goh

Angela Goh is an Australian dancer and choreographer.  after pARTY’s 8th edition is the product launch of Ascent and an exclusive chance to celebrate this breakthrough product. There will be slick dj’s FlexMami and Johnny Lieu, product samples, a product demonstration, and the opportunity to mingle with VIPs, and feel like one yourself.

Her compositions often play with sampling, looping and unrelenting layers of signal degradation. For this edition of after pARTY, Chun Yin is constructing, selling and performing fakes. Shanzhai (山寨) refers to the counterfeiting of Western brands by Chinese companies; these fakes are sustained by parasitic relationships to the powerful and mainstream.

Invisible Labours of Love ~ Ft. Make or Break

Make or Break is an ongoing collaboration between Sydney artists Connie Anthes and Rebecca Gallo.  For this edition of after pARTY winners are grinners, and Make or Break want to celebrate your invisible labours of love with personalised poetically inscribed trophies for all those feeling underpaid, undervalued and under-recognised.

Hannah Brontë’s work examines female empowerment through distinguishing the new roles and expectations of young women today, specifically exploring the languages in popular culture, hip-hop and slang regarding women. Weave your way through the Jungle floor at Freda’s as Hannah Brontë creates an immersive cardboard and paper weaving installation filled with giant banana’s.
